After looking for awhile and not finding what I wanted in a 285, and after giving it more thought, I recently put an offer on a C&C 30 MK II that has just been accepted. I will have her surveyed next week. She will need a bit of work, but there is lots of potential here and I can't wait to get started! I must admit to a bit of sadness in leaving the Beneteau family, but who knows . . .

Cheers,

Dave

Dave,

As my Canadian friends would say, 'Beauty!'

What a find. C&Cs are wonderful boats. I used to own a 34 and loved it. Top shelf craftsmanship. Only place to look hard is the cored hull around thruhulls. I can't wait to see her get shipshape, Dave-style!

I know a popular mod s to move the traveler off the cabin top and on the bridge deck.. Easier soloing.

Anyone not familiar with the boat can see the original brochure here:

I've sailed on and around a modified C&C 30 Mk I for a number of years, seeing it from every angle, inside
and out, behind the wheel and sails. GREAT BOATS that really do well in heavier conditions while still ok in
light with quality sails. Can really serve as a live aboard with some modifications. Very stout rig and
nice lead keel. The Mk 1 version suffered from not the most comfortable cockpit. Hope the MkII addressed
some of those issues with the seat backs/coaming. Think you'll be impressed with the sailing. Been
around this boat for hours and hours of ocean sailing in every kind of condition and it always impressed.
Handles the rough stuff with ease. I think this era C&C present some of the best bargains around.

I got ahead of myself. Survey results were not as I had hoped. I guess I'll keep looking.

It has been a bit frustrating. The struggle for me is finding the boat that sits at that sweet spot where size (28-30), condition, and affordability all come together in the right package. I have kept my eyes on Beneteau of course, but nothing has grabed my attention or is too far out of reach given my work schedule. I'll have some time off this summer, so it may have to wait until then. I looked at a 285 this weekend and discussed an offer, but it turns out the owner sold it on the side without telling his listing agent - no doubt the broker was not happy.

Consider a 30.5
Much faster than the 285 and a better interior for the same price
