Lots to choose from in the area anyway.
the line up includes:
1. Alberg 30
2. C&C Redwing 30
3. Halman Horizon 27
4. Van de stat steel 30'
criteria:
seaworthy, seakindly, single hand-able, take 235 as partial trade would be a bonus..
any recommendations? |

Cant get any more different then the 235 then those boats. A totally different paradigm.
My friend has a C&C 30 that I sail either in or around all the time (a bit more modern then Redwing). GREAT boat and many around up north. Very stiff and can handle some serious conditions. Stout rig with keel stepped mast. Lead keel, another important feature. Does really well in a variety of conditions and he ONLY single-hands unless I'm with him.
I'd keep it on my radar. See two links below for it on water. Can be made really nice down below.

If I was thinking of continuing to enjoy sailing and racing from a home port, the 235 wins hands down.
But I'm thinking of taking a one year "sabbatical" and cruising long distance, a different paradigm for boat choice
My top choice is an Alberg 30. because:
1. full keel - best for "sea kindliness" and heaving to Pardy style..
2. classic lines - I like the look.
3. family feel - not unlike the 235 community.
4. The price - close to an even trade, maybe a small amount more.
5. I watched Yves Gelinas "Around the world with Jean-du-sud" and that did it for me.
The other boats on my list are only there because they are for sale nearby and offered at a great price.
Kelly, your post made me strongly consider a C&C 27 MKIII that is for sale at my club. It is pristine and the owner offered me a great deal. It is set up strictly for racing though... (owner is Tal Wolf of www.performancesails.com -- so the boat comes with WICKED sails!!) |

heading to the maritimes first, then down the east coast to the caribbean then back up and across to holland then back to "reality" heh. |

nope it's "wee dawn" a pale yellow hull & deck, it is not listed but it is for sale, the owner never uses it. it will need some attention, but don't they all?
And it passes my approval because it hasn't been converted to the dreaded wheel.......=]

Damn that's a good looking C&C 30!
And that's the roachyest main I've ever seen on a 30!
