A friend just told me he saw a 235 for sale in Sydney, close to Victoria, BC. And indeed, here she is. Never seen her sailing in the local waters, so she might be a recent import. http://www.thunderbirdmarine.com/boat-info.php?ID=3355

It's hull #041 in the directory. Looks like another 'raised boom' to make way for a bimini ... I guess one needs a bimini for a different reason in the Pac NW than the reason we like them in the SE ;-)

Well, you never know. I sailed 85nm this weekend single handed and thought I was going to fry - it's been unbelievably hot in BC lately (by our standards, anyway). Forest fires everywhere, water restrictions, the lot. Our Bluewater Cruising club had its main annual rendezvous where we wish the "Leavers" fair winds. These crews typically leave for years, often for complete circumnavigations. The RV was on one of the Gulf Islands some 35nm from Vancouver. Boy was it hot out there! I must have jumped in the ocean at least a dozen times to cool down. Great fun though, and great sailing across the Strait of Georgia to get there and back.

The sale of "Amberleigh" should be complete come monday hopefully! Surveyed today, mint condition all around!

She'll be renamed Weird Beard, and likely be situated in Cowichan Bay, possibly Nanaimo, even less likely, Sidney.

Steady 20 knots and 4-6' swells for the 2 hour sea trial today. Made things pretty interesting since my sailing experience is from windsurfing. Heeled her right over and slipped the decks under a couple times! Sun was shining, warm enough, great day!

Lookin good Tony!!

Being that you come from windsurfing it's safe to assume you arent intimidated by wind and waves. Learn to reef early, sailboats are slow as hell when overpowered.

I never knew anything could be as fun as windsurfing until I got my 235. Now I'm only windsurfing the perfect days which is maybe 6 times per season here in Ontario. I am even considering switching to kiting. ahhh!!

Oh no, the dreaded 'K' word!!! Don't do it! I tried it, and it just doesn't have the same direct feel as windsurfing, plus you have to rely on others for launches and landings, and when the wind is really fun (30+) it really gets dicey. The gear also requires way more upkeep, especially if you are kiting on small barnacle covered beaches like we have here.

Here in Victoria a lot of guys with full time jobs still get 100+ windsurfing days a year, between local spots, Nitinat Lake and up-island locales. I was at 50 before I had shoulder surgery just under 4 weeks ago.

I think yesterday I would have been way more comfortable on my 5.3m/91L, the sailboat is just darn scary even though I am going way slower!!! I guess thats in part because its worth more and I don't want to sink it!

Everything is said and done, my money is gone but now she is mine!!!

For those wondering (and because it is sort of interesting), the boat looks like it was originally purchased in New Jersey, in 1992 it was sold for $13,934 USD with a trailer, 8 HP O/B and a newly installed roller furling and moved to Pennsylvania. In 2002 the customs documents show just under $19,000 CAD landed in Montreal where I understood she stayed for a few years before the same owners moved out west to the Victoria area of Vancouver Island, BC. Once in BC the owners added the dodger and bimini, new Jib + mainsail, upgraded to a 9.9 HP 4stroke, installed an Autopilot and other misc. electronics and installed brakes in the trailer. That brings her to today. There have obviously been a few major investments along the way, but its interesting to note how the value has remained fairly constant.

The previous owners had a lovely binder full of all the purchase receipts ($3200 CAD on the dodger! but boy is it a nice one!), service records, and other pertinent information, along with the original owners manual and brochure. Very nice to have.

I am not sure if anyone is updating the F235 directory, but if they are they can change hull #041's name, location and owner according to my signature.

I suppose someone can make this thread as SOLD.

I don't believe the mainsail is shortened, not exactly sure how I tell if the boom has been raised.

the lower black band may remain on the mast; or perhaps you might see old or possibly filled rivet holes where the gooseneck was moved from.

I should also add, while at the sales dock she received a brand new mast. Interestingly, it was replaced by insurance after a small dent occurred during stepping. I was surprised that insurance would cover that, but there you go.

Still can't tell whether the mast is raised or not.

The bimini cannot be used while sailing as it overlaps the top of the dodger. The dodger itself however is brilliant and deflects a lot of the spray form the cockpit and certainly from the companionway. With windows all around it, I haven't found it to obscure visibility, although my jib has a large window which helps with plenty of sight lines.

Raise a tape measure to the top with the main halyard. If you are around 26.4' above the boom, you have the full P measurement. Be careful to not lose the halyard - have to pull it down with the tape.

The centre of the gooseneck fitting to the deck on my boat is about 25".

If your mast is around 29' it is stock.

I would say it's not raised based on the photo in this very thread.

The dodger is a great addition for winter sailing though I think it's a hindrince and actually takes away from the experience at all other times. Ditto with the bimini, except substitute the hottest of summer months. In my view, the F235 is a more performance oriented boat and you lose some of the direct connection with the sailig process when the bimini/dodger is involved. It's a great help when out for cruising pleasure, though.
