that boat looks like it is in rough shape.
I like the way he says that the wings sail nothing like the fin..........heh

he also used the words Hunter & Catalina in the discription, wont the sale get pulled for that?

Why do you say it's in rough shape? Doesnt look too bad to me and has a nice engine. On the fin comment, yeah, he has to sell the beast. No view of the bottom but this looks in ok condition, nothing that some elbow grease and typical new owner care wouldnt remedy. On the other hand, it's hard to judge a boat via photos.

On a side note, it's one of the first F235 I have seen with custom cockpit cushions. The sink looks relatively new. The cabin graphics look shot.

Who knows where the reserve is set, though.

look at the carpet the boat has had substantial water inside, I guess the point is don't buy it sight unseen...........these boats don't need BS descriptions, they sell themselves......JM2C

I see some of the stains but dont think you can definitely say she's had "substantial" water without knowing this. Sometimes, mold can creep from a smaller stain and progress out. Ditto with leaks where mold and discoloration can sometimes be tricky to pinpoint.

This boat may turn out to be a good deal. But your point is taken about seeing it in person. I think that goes without saying unless it's some kind of amazing deal you cant pass up, the price making it worth it. Buying a boat sight unseen is a lesson in potential disaster and disappointment, however.

Mine was unseen, so I hope the disaster and disappointment hold off a bit longer. The airfare to go visit was 20% of the asking, and I had accepted that it was a bit of a project boat. My standard of OK condition and the broker's ended up even further apart than I had allowed, which did result in some surprises.

The point I wanted to add is that a visit is a good idea, but a survey is really necessary, and is usually required by the insurance company anyway. My surveyor summed the boat up as "It's a mess, but there's nothing structurally wrong with it. I wouldn't have proceeded if there had been a wet deck or blisters.

This boat is two slips over from me. I know he just finished the exterior teak a couple of months ago. And the interior looks far better now than it did when I last saw the boat for sale, at a live auction.

It will be interesting to see how much he gets for it. I thought he had told me that he had a trailer for the boat but it doesn't appear to have one in the auction.

Dan, do you know the loon at all? Why is he selling it? Did he sail it or use it? Spill the beans in the interior... was it totally wacked out when he got it?

Ultimately, what do you think it's worth after viewing it up close?

I have only talked with him a few times. Most recently when we were preparing for Hurricane Rita. He told me in the past that he has been out sailing on it but I have never seen it out on the water. He has done quite a bit of work on it in the past few months but I have not seen the interior close up. This was the boat that got me interested in the F235 when I inspected it before the Sea Scouts auction where it was sold for a bit more than I was willing to bid considering how much was unknown at the time like bottom condition or even if it was a wing or fin keel. At the auction the interior was kind of rough as it had obviously been sitting without care for several years and the heads of the keel bolts really scared me.

This is so common with Beneteaus on the coast that even Beneteau downplays it. Usually a wire brush and some elbow grease make them look a bit better. EVen still, remember that in the history of the company, no one keel has ever "fallen off" a Beneteau. I dont think Ward even thought there had ever been a lost keel due to any circumstance. USually the keel boats look a lot worse than they are on the interior. This bothered the hell out of me as well but I'm better with it since reading and talking to others about their keel bolts (many in other Beneteaus).

As I remember (this was 2+ years ago so memory may not be great) them they could not be turned with a wrench anymore. These may have been replaced when he had the boat hauled for the bottom job though.

As a follow-up on this boat, the owner, Sam Abraham, who actually is a registered member here, decided to keep the boat after he bought an aluminum power boat trailer he is customizing for his F235. He mentioned that he would post about the trailer once it was completed. He's posted a few times, mainly regarding the faulty LCD on his SH depth gauge.
