After making the economically sound yet painfully emotional decision to part with my First 235 of 21 years, (not unlike giving up my Audi A4 for a minivan) I decided to test the waters with an ad in Craigslist. This was my first response from a JAXashby@aol.com:
"Really?? twelve grand?? for a flyweight 21 year old boat with NO standing head room, NO roller furling, NO legally required holding tank, an outboard, a commode to pee into in front of your girlfriend and daughter?
For twelve grand a buyer can get a Cape Dory 27, and have money left over for slip fee's."
Talk about kicking a skipper when he's down! I had to restrain myself from hunting him down and keelhauling him on a barnacle encrusted Cape Dory 27. Obviously he was trying to get a rise out of me. And my experience has shown that bad karma eventually catches up to miscreants such as JAXashby.
I googled his name and discovered he has made a hobby of disrupting nautical chat groups with know-it-all put downs. Someone theorized that he tries to scare prices down and then follows up with a low-ball offer under another name. Curiously, a British sounding guy called Jonathan A. soon called me, saying he lived nearby in (CT) and wanted a look-see. I said, "That's funny, you have a Massachusetts area code." He said it was a long story and hurried off the phone.
Another person noted that JAXashby's real supposed expertise lies in aeronautics and that the JAX is from when he flew out of Jacksonville. Another person referred to him as an amusing Troll. Anybody have any run-ins with this guy? _________________ 1989 ~ Hull#330 ~ lolita |

No, but I see he does not understand the use of the apostrophe to express the possessive or word contractions, but not to be used to express plural.
Sad, indeed. _________________ Jeannette

I had a guy (Sail854@aol.com) that saw my ad on craigslist and was actually mad, and he seemed to take it personally, at the price I had listed. He wanted to compare it to an O'Day 240. I didn't get a phone call, but an e-mail inquiry the next day that kind of fits the same MO.
I had about 10 legitimate inquiries from craigslist and he was the only one that seemed emotionally challenged. I was a little disappointed that he had "sail" in his handle, and that he might be out there on the lake with me sometime.
Good luck.. _________________ John365

John, glad I'm not the only one who has been attacked in the classifieds. The insulting email from Jax Ashby was followed by a suspicious call from Jonathan Adams followed by a suspect email from Janey Allerman this weekend. See a pattern here? Oh no. You're John from Atlanta. Yikes. _________________ 1989 ~ Hull#330 ~ lolita |

Ouch. If you are a guy, this called having a van-sectomy.
PS - These idiots like JAX live to get a rise out of you. The best thing you can do is ignore it. That cuts off their oxygen. _________________ Clay Babcock
