We have decided to sell our boat and move up to a 285.
Grip Fast is a fresh water boat that was on Lake Michigan for her two previous owners. She sat in covered storage for several years of her life previous to 2007 when I purchased her and has been upgraded and maintained very well since I owned her.

Pics can be viewed at:

http://picasaweb.google.com/f235gripfast/GripFast82309?authkey=Gv1sRgCM63v-OOkJuo1gE&feat=directlink

and

Fin keel
Bimini with spray curtains

Pulled in 2007 and 2008 and bottom cleaned and two fresh coats of VC-17 applied each year. No blisters.

I am sure I am forgetting a bunch of stuff

The sails are not new. I had the main reconditioned last winter and it looks great and is fine for cruising. All sails are Dacron.

I have posted many of my upgrades and they can viewed on this site.

The only things I know that need done to my boat are:

One minor repair to gel coat on starboard side of stern where I tangled with the dock this spring. I repaired the damaged to the fiberglass as best I could without pulling the boat, but it will need sanded and then a gel coat repair. The damaged area is about 2 inches by 3/4 inch at the corner of the hull where it protrudes past the stern. I was going to repair it myself when I pulled her this fall.

Replace the port side line organizer. I replaced the starboard side but the port side was purchased and never replaced, I may get around to this over the labor day weekend.

Price for everything is $12,500 and will help pull and pack her up. She can be viewed and sailed at Cave Run Lake, near Morehead Kentucky.

Any one interested may contact me via my cell phone at 304 541 9356 or thru the email and pm links of our site.

I have had a few inquiries about the trailer. It can be viewed at the following link:

http://picasaweb.google.com/f235gripfast/LoadmasterTrailer?authkey=Gv1sRgCLiD5bvd3M7EPw&feat=directlink

The boat on the trailer in the pictures is a RK 21 I am doing a bottom job on. I have the adjustable jacks raised up all the way in the front to access the bottom of the little boat.

This trailer is a beast and can accomodate boats up to 28 feet. I will sell it with the F235 or keep it if who ever buys my boat doesnt want it. For pricing seperately the boat goes for $10,500, the trailer is set at $2,000.

The trailer has no brakes. They were rusted tight when I bought the rig and had to take them off to get it home. I pull with a pretty big truck and the brakes were not an issue for me. If you pull with something light, you will need brakes on this rig. It still has the cylinder but will need lines and brakes.

I have had inquiries that requested more pics of the cockpit and berths. Follow the link for pics of these areas.

I'm not trying to butt, in and this is only my $.02, but i would make my first picture that people see, a picture of the exterior of the boat and its shape. The picture of you two sailing is a great addition to the photo library, lord knows we can all appreciate having that much fun but when people search www.sailboatlistings.com lots of them fall in love with the boat in the thumbnail picture. Must be sad to see her go but you have a great listing with lots of good attributes the boat is in great shape.

I will change the pics around some. I have gotten several responses from the sailingtexas.com ad, and I just put it in sailboatlistings.com last night.

I thought a picture of smiling people sailing a boat would be refreshing for an ad. We will see. I will change it next week and see what happens.

Only one inquiry from this site so far.

I hate to see her go, but I she will make someone a nice boat and we need to move up in size.

I really enjoyed the work I put into her because she is so nice a boat. I would do it again in a minute.

I have another boat in my driveway that I am working but it is no fun at all, just work.

Isn't the guy from sailingtexas so nice to do that for free. He sets up the pages really well too. I have sold 2 boats on that site alone. Great site.

Yes, I have had most of my inquiries from that site. I even had a local inquiry from the sailingtexas site.

He makes his money from the advertisements, not the not boat classified. He is actually smart making the classifieds free as it brings more people and hits to this page which allows him to charge more for the ad space.

I have to agree on the lead photo on the listings site. Lead off with the most pristine shot of your boat.

I've helped a few people sell First 235s in the earlier days when I had more time. The first one netted the loon 14K though his boat was totally overhauled. Mike had a great sample ( http://www.beneteau235.com/f235_listings/89_f235_maryland/ ) that Brad's reminds me of a bit. Both are cruisers at heart that probably were in the 30ft market from the get go, besides price. I'm even betting that 28ft 285 will not be the stopping point. Brad has done a lot to get his beast ready for someone with a bit of wanderlust wanting a smaller option.

I do appreciate your suggestions and will get around to changing the main photo soon.

Kelly is proably right about not being happy with a 285, but it will do great for a while.

I appologize if this is intrusive but did you get what you were asking?

I sold my Catalina through sailingtexas. Gave a donation through paypal after it sold when david asked. He's been battling cancer and still keeps the site going. There's even a picture of him in the hospital bed with his laptop.

Hey Brad,
I just left my trailer at a shop on Friday night to have the surge brake worked on. I should get the estimate tomorrow - please tell me what brake work you had done and what it cost so I can compare. the whole lot (hubs, shoes, lines, cylinder and piston, etc)? Hydraulic or electric brakes?

Just found out - the whole brake system has to be replaced - all up (parts, tax and labor) it's going to cost $930 !! Ouch! On the bright side though, the trailer is now worth quite a bit more than it was last week - I just have to work out how to get as much value out of all that new stuff while selling my boat. It might be best to take it off the market until spring, do a few more fix-ups and relist it then at a higher price - boats are easier to sell in the spring anyway. I sure won't be taking any offers below my present low-ball asking price.

I dont know, Neil. That is a lot of ducats for sure, especially for something not directly related to improving the boat. Wow. My trailer doesnt even have brakes and ole Abstrait has been across two States and all over the county, running from hurricanes. Indeed, both trailers I've used have been sans brakes, the previous owners also being without. Of course, it's a good thing to have brakes on this size trailer but putting close to $1000 into "brakes" seems ...ummm.....exorbitant to say the least. That's more than I paid for my entire trailer. We actually have the same trailer although yours is a twin axle so is carrying more weight right there. Still, have you actually DONE this yet?

All parts for brakes for my trailer from master cylinder back was $480 plus shipping.

I personally think that brakes on a rig the size of ours is a waste of money if you haul with a pick up truck. However, apparently most buyers seam to be concerend about this. Just about every serious inquirey was bothered by the note in my add that indicated there were no brakes on the trailer.

I aggreed to fix them even though "I dont need no stinking brakes"!

Yeah, I wouldn't even mention brakes in my ad. Know it's already sold so a moot point, but if selling tomorrow, I would simply act as if brakes aren't absolutely necessary if you have a truck. But you are right about some people being really sensitive to this. If you take it easy and allow for the typical towing awareness, it's surely not mandatory, however. Indeed, half those trailers have surge brakes that barely work when good.

here in Ontario, Canada, trailer brakes(working!) are legally mandatory over 3000lbs...

I've had two serious enquiries and one interest enquiry from people in Canada - your post explains why they have all asked about brakes. Thanks!

One other thing ... some people tow the F235 with vehicles smaller than a good-sized pickup (we've see pics of several small cars as tow vehicles in Europe and at least one minivan in Canada). In anything less than perfect road conditions (and not on a downhill grade) and in very light traffic, I would would be worried about braking at highway speeds with any vehicle that is not heavier than the all-up weight of the F235, all it's gear and the trailer, which probably sums to ~4500 lb.
